The MOSAiC expedition (www.mosaic-expedition.org) under the direction of the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Center for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is associated with unprecedented challenges. During the drift experiment, FIELAX supports the research crew on board the German research icebreaker FS Polarstern. 1-2 IT-specialists install and maintain parts of the extensive data management systems and also help to organize and backup all collected data. During the 12-month challenge, personnel, gear, consumables and fuel is replaced regularly. The first rotation currently takes place with help of the Russian icebreaker 'Capitan Dranitsyn'. The picture shows both vessels at their rendezvous.
HeatFlowProbe for University of Tromsø
The University of Tromsø (UiT) is now owner of a HeatFlowProbe manufactured by FIELAX. The picture shows the purchased system secured and ready for its journey.
Temperature Error Estimation (TEEst)
In cooperation with the working group "Mathematical Statistics" of the University of Bremen, the project "Temperature Error Estimation (TEEst)" was launched on 15 May. The components of a sediment-cable temperature model are statistically modeled to arrive at an error estimate for the cable temperature under real conditions. The electric utility companies can then dimension their cables resource-conserving but nevertheless safe. The project is supported by funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the state of Bremen.
Solar power for FIELAX 🙂
This week, H&H Wührmann (www.wuehrmann.de) installs a 30kW photovoltaic system on the roof of our company building. With this, we aim to produce the bulk of our electric power demand and save not only costs but significant amounts of CO2. We are looking forward to use our own green energy in the future!
TRT measurements in tidal seas offshore Taiwan for Jan de Nul
The measurements went very well thanks to support and knowledge of Jan de Nul and locals.
In autumn 2018, FIELAX has conducted TRT measurements offshore Taiwan for Jan de Nul. The data will be used to enlarge the knowledge base and optimize the planning for the big offshore wind farms Formosa and Changhua. Read more
